Bureau of Transportation Statistics Upcoming Releases
April 23 through May 4
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics will release the following data sets in the next two weeks:
- North American Freight Data, February 2018
Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - 11:30am ET
The release summarizes the value of freight transported in February by truck, rail and other modes between the U.S. and Canada and the U.S. and Mexico with the top states, ports and commodities. Last month, BTS reported that trucks moved freight valued at $60.6 billion between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in January 2018, up 10.2 percent compared to January 2017. Rail moved freight valued at $13.3 billion, up 0.6 percent during the same period.

The average domestic air fare rose to $347 in the fourth quarter of 2017, rising 3.0 percent from $337 in the third quarter of 2016, which was the lowest inflation-adjusted quarterly average fare in 23 years of air fare records.
- Passenger Airline Employment, February 2018

U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 3.0 percent more workers in February 2018 than in February 2017. February was the highest monthly full-time equivalent (FTE) employment total (432,232 FTEs) since December 2004 (436,909 FTEs) and was the 51st consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year.
- National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD)Spring Update

NTAD is a compilation of geospatial data sets representing the nation’s transportation infrastructure, containing roadways, railways, and airports.
- National Transportation Statistics (NTS) Quarterly Update

NTS is a reference guide to national-level transportation data. NTS, updated quarterly, includes a wide range of national transportation information. NTS consists of more than 260 tables of national data of which 56 were updated this quarter.
