The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs Designates Additional Megaprojects and Brings More Opportunities to the Construction Trades
Today, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs announced the designation of 16 additional federally funded construction projects in its Mega Construction Project (Megaproject) Program. OFCCP launched the Megaproject Program in March 2023, to foster equal opportunity in the construction trades workforce, and expand access to the millions of good jobs being created by the President’s $2 trillion "Investing in America" agenda.
Megaprojects are large federal or federally assisted construction projects that are valued at $35 million or more – some part of which must be federal funding – and last more than one year. Through the Megaproject Program, OFCCP focuses the agency’s efforts to bring the public and private sector together on designated Megaprojects to provide a diverse pool of qualified workers with access to good jobs in the construction trades and to promote equitable hiring and fair workplace practices by federal construction contractors.
For each Megaproject, OFCCP provides several benefits to contractors, and some are:
-
Community Support: OFCCP leverages its relationships in communities across the country to provide on-the-ground assistance to contractors to strengthen their hiring, recruitment, and employment practices.
-
Recruitment Resources: OFCCP helps contractors broaden the pool of available workers by providing connections to recruitment sources so that projects can fully use the local workforce and get the needed talent.
-
Compliance Reviews: OFCCP conducts compliance reviews to evaluate contractors’ anti-discrimination and equal opportunity practices.
-
Technical Assistance: OFCCP provides technical assistance on how contractors can foster workplaces free from harassment and discrimination and address ongoing barriers to recruitment and retention.
For the 16 newly designated megaprojects, OFCCP partnered with the Department of Commerce, Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, Department of Transportation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The agency applied a set of neutral criteria to designate megaprojects from a wider pool of eligible projects. These newly designated projects build on OFCCP’s designation last year of 24 megaprojects funded by the Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and General Services Administration.
The new, FY24 Mega Construction Designees Release 2 list of designated projects and selection methodology are available on OFCCP’s website at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ofccp/scheduling-list.
The Megaproject Program supports the Biden-Harris administration’s roadmap to support good jobs and accomplishes the President’s vision of growing our economy from the bottom up and middle out, while strengthening and expanding our workforce by partnering with employers to provide opportunities for jobs across the country. In doing this work, OFCCP supports successful implementation of the administration’s historic investments made in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act by aiding federally funded construction contractors in recruiting, hiring, and retaining all available talent to advance the success of infrastructure projects across the nation.
