Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Every year, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s contributions to the fight for equality and justice are honored and celebrated. An advocate for workers’ rights, Dr. King helped define the movement for equal employment opportunity in the form of better jobs and higher wages.
Dr. King organized strikes and boycotts against discriminatory employers who refused to hire African Americans or pay them fair wages. His work helped bring awareness to the issues while inspiring others to stand up against injustice in the workplace.
Dr. King's commitment to equality is deeply embedded in the mission of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). Each day at OFCCP we protect workers, promote diversity, and enforce the law. Our work to advance equal opportunity and eradicate systemic discrimination is critical to effectively addressing the longstanding barriers embedded in many employment policies and practices.
In 2023, OFCCP secured over $36,880,000 for 14,582 American workers and job seekers that were victims of unlawful discrimination. We will continue to work tirelessly to eliminate workplace discrimination and to ensure workers from every zip code in America can access good jobs.
All of us have a role to play in honoring Dr. King's legacy and ensuring his dream is fully realized. Join us today and everyday as we take actionable steps in advancing equal employment opportunity for all.
