DOL seeks to attract and retain a high performing and diverse workforce in which employees' differences are respected and valued to better meet the varying needs of the diverse customers we serve. DOL fosters a diverse and inclusive work environment that promotes collaboration, flexibility and fairness so that all individuals are able to participate and contribute to their full potential. These positions are located at the U.S. Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), New York, NY. The primary mission of the EBSA is to plan, direct, and administer a comprehensive enforcement program over a broad geographic area to ensure maximum compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and related civil and criminal statutes. The security of retirement funds and the availability of employer-sponsored health care are matters of widespread concern to American workers today. The EBSA protects the pension, health, and other employee benefits of over 150 million participants and beneficiaries in private sector employee benefit plans. To help assure the integrity and effective management of the private pension and health benefit plan system, the EBSA assists workers in understanding their rights and benefits, educates plan sponsors and officials about their statutory responsibilities to prevent violations from occurring, and deters and corrects violations of the law where health benefits and pension security are at risk. This is a student internship appointment that is expected to last for more than one year. PLEASE NOTE: To be appointed to this position, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying academic institution at the time of appointment, and must maintain such enrollment throughout the duration of the appointment. Upon completion of requirements for graduation and successful completion of the internship, the appointee may become eligible for non-competitive conversion, at the agency's discretion, to a term or permanent position in the competitive service. Appointee must sign a DOL Pathways Intern Program Participant Agreement. The entire duration of the internship constitutes a trial period. Appointee must be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service upon completion of the internship.
