Data Snapshot Shows Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Delinquency Cases
OJJDP has updated its Statistical Briefing Book with a new Data Snapshot on racial and ethnic disparities in the processing of delinquency cases from 2005 to 2022.
According to the snapshot, referral rates for delinquency cases involving Black youth were more than twice the rates for all other groups since 2005. The data show that, except for 2022, delinquency cases involving white youth were most likely to be diverted. The data also show that delinquency cases involving Black, Hispanic, and American Indian youth were most likely to result in out-of-home placement since 2007.
