A MESSAGE FROM ACTING ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
BRENT J. COHEN

OJP is in the midst of the busiest time of an already very busy year. In the weeks ahead, we will be awarding thousands of grants to communities across the country to: help improve community safety, support victims of crime, protect America's youth and create new opportunities for them, advance science and promote equal justice. We're excited about these new investments and look forward to continuing our work to create safe and just communities.

This month, we also celebrate an important milestone. September 7 marks the 50^th anniversary of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act, which, among other things, created our Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. That landmark piece of legislation also established core requirements for protecting youth in the juvenile justice system and set our nation on a course for better treatment of justice-involved youth across America, a mission that continues through the work of OJJDP.

This issue of Justice Programs News & Funding includes more funding opportunities, a healthy line-up of events and activities, and a number of new publications, as well as a video highlighting the impact of OJP's Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative.

What is the Impact of Community Violence Intervention?

The new video, "What is the Impact of Community Violence Intervention," has just been released! The video features leaders and community advocates who share their perspectives on the critical role of community violence intervention in building safer neighborhoods.

New CDC Report Shows Increased Violence Against LGBTQ+ Youth and Girls

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released the "Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data Summary and Trends Report: 2013-2023." The report provides data on U.S. high school students' mental health and well-being, substance use, experiences of violence, and sexual behavior.

Violent Crime Reduction Roadmap

The Department of Justice's Violent Crime Reduction Roadmap is a one-stop-shop to assist local jurisdictions in developing, implementing, and evaluating the right strategies to prevent, intervene in, and respond to acts of community gun violence.

Media Engagement Toolkit: A Guide for Grantees

The Office of Justice Programs encourages grantees to showcase the impact their organizations have made in the community by sharing stories and best practices to help us amplify how they are helping create safe and just communities.

What To Expect After Submitting Your OJP Application for Funding
Most OJP funding awards will be announced by September 30. If an application is selected for funding: 
- The assigned Application Submitter, Authorized Representative(s), and Entity Administrator will receive an email notice from JustGrants.
- Users will see the new award under their entity's "Awards" section in JustGrants.
Status updates for submitted applications are not available. DOJ staff will contact you if they have any questions or require additional information regarding your application for funding.

It's our anniversary! The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention are turning 50!

On September 7, 1974, the JJDPA was signed into law, setting federal standards for the safe and equitable treatment of young people in the juvenile justice system and establishing OJJDP to lead national efforts to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency. Over the past 50 years, we've made incredible strides, and we're excited to keep the momentum going!
