OJJDP Celebrates LGBTQI+ Pride Month

President Biden proclaimedJune as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Pride Month

The Biden Administration is committed to delivering protections, safety, and equality to the LGBTQI+ community, including youth. The President’s Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation directs all federal agencies to treat everyone “with respect and dignity. . . no matter who they are or whom they love” and to take all necessary steps to ensure that they “receive equal treatment under the law, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation.”

OJJDP continues its longstanding support of LGBTQI+ youth. The Office will fund the FY 2022 National Resource Center for Justice-Involved LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit Youth grant to meet the needs of this marginalized community. OJJDP has also developed a framework to guide its approach to serving LGBTQI+ and Two-Spirit youth, including a policy statement with recommendations for their treatment in the juvenile justice system.
