******PUBLICATION ADVISORY****** NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF JUSTICE PUBLISHES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVING FORENSIC LABORATORY PRACTICES WASHINGTON – The Office of Justice Programs’ National Institute of Justice today published a guide designed to lead forensic DNA laboratory stakeholders through scientific and policy decisions. The guide includes recommendations designed to help laboratories anticipate changes — including technological advances and new legislation — that may affect their caseloads. The recommendations are authored by experts in forensic science and laboratory management and aimed at improving efficiency of various essential tasks that DNA forensic laboratories routinely perform. Tasks range from hiring and training personnel to implementing new technologies, managing casework and tracking laboratory workflows.
