TRACEY TRAUTMAN TAPPED AS ACTING HEAD OF BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Office of Justice Programs Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Katharine T. Sullivan announced today that Tracey Trautman will serve as the Acting Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance, effective immediately. She will take the leadership post held recently by Jon Adler and will serve until a Director is appointed.

“Tracey Trautman has been a strong and dedicated leader in the Justice Department for almost a decade,” said Sullivan. “She will continue to advance the Department’s public safety mission prioritized by Attorney General Barr and President Trump. Ms. Trautman will help us carry out the Attorney General’s strategy to reduce violent crime, combat the opioid crisis and protect America’s brave law enforcement officers.”

Trautman has over 25 years’ experience as a federal employee, having served in a number of positions supporting public safety agencies. She has been with the Bureau of Justice Assistance since 2010, serving as Deputy Director of Programs. She served as the Acting Director of BJA from January until December of 2017. Prior to her time in BJA, she spent over seven years with the Department of Homeland Security, including in positions as the Deputy Assistant Administrator and the Acting Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Grant Programs Division. She also served for 30 years as an officer in the Army National Guard of the United States.
