Find Your DEA Community Outreach Specialist
Want to connect with the Drug Enforcement Administration in your community? A new document lists the DEA’s Community Outreach Specialists by state and is available at this link.
A Community Outreach Specialist with DEA bridges the gap between the agency and the public. Their responsibilities focus on education, prevention, and community engagement to combat drug abuse and support law enforcement efforts. Each of DEA’s 23 domestic field divisions has a Community Outreach Specialist.
Their duties include:
- Public Education & Awareness
- Develop and deliver presentations about the dangers of drug use, particularly opioids, fentanyl, and synthetic drugs.
- Educate communities about drug trends, trafficking tactics, and prevention strategies.
- Promote awareness campaigns such as National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
- Community Engagement
- Build partnerships with schools, community groups, religious organizations, local governments, and other stakeholders.
- Represent the DEA at public events, town halls, health fairs, and school programs.
- Support initiatives like Operation Engage, a DEA program focused on comprehensive drug education and prevention.
- Prevention Programs
- Assist in implementing evidence-based prevention programs tailored to specific communities.
- Work with youth programs and prevention coalitions to reduce drug demand.
- Provide training and resources to educators, parents, and community leaders.
- Media and Communication
- Serve as a point of contact for drug prevention information and resources.
- Develop educational materials, press releases, and social media content to support outreach goals.
- Support to DEA Operations
- While not involved in enforcement, they complement field operations by working to reduce the demand side of the drug problem.
- Help communities understand DEA’s mission and encourage cooperation with law enforcement efforts.
KiDS: Keep It Digitally Safe Campaign National Contest
The KiDS: Keep It Digitally Safe Campaign is a national contest designed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of unregulated social media and hold Big Tech accountable for the risks their platforms pose to youth. By inviting creative submissions for social media warning labels, the campaign seeks to educate the public about the mental health dangers linked to excessive and harmful online content.
Participants, particularly young people, will have the opportunity to showcase their vision of warning labels that highlight these risks, emphasizing the message: Every click has a cost. Label the risk.
Winning entries will be rewarded with scholarships of $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000, and all submissions will be featured on the campaign’s website and social media channels. This initiative supports legislative efforts, including the Kids Online Safety Act and Age-Appropriate Design Code, to implement safety measures that protect youth. The campaign draws inspiration from public health successes, such as tobacco and alcohol warning labels, and advocates for similar approaches on social media platforms to reduce harm. By combining creative public engagement with advocacy, the KiDS Campaign amplifies the voices of young people, parents, and communities calling for stronger protections and digital accountability.
