Together for Families Network: Resources for Parents and Schools
DEA Curriculum is for all schools – and parents too!
Operation Prevention is a free drug prevention education curriculum developed by DEA in partnership with Discovery Education.
This exciting educational initiative is designed to inspire life-changing conversations and equip people from all walks of life with the knowledge and refusal skills they need to steer clear of substance misuse. Access standards-aligned content for students in grades 3-12, plus additional resources for educators, Tribal communities, and professionals.
Because some of the most important learning happens at home, Operation Prevention includes a Parent Toolkit in both English and Spanish which can help you help your loved ones.
Together for Family network members can also ensure the schools they work with are aware of this free, science-based, evidence-informed curriculum by sharing this program flyer. Questions? E-mail community.outreach@dea.gov.

VITAL SIGNS by VICTORIA’s VOICE
After losing their daughter Victoria to a drug overdose in 2015, David and Jackie Siegel dedicated themselves to understanding how this tragedy came to pass. In doing so, they learned a great deal about the recognizable signs of risk in youth — the very signs they either missed, misunderstood, or underestimated in Victoria.
Although they cannot change their story of loss, they created the VITAL SIGNS program to save other parents and families from experiencing a similar tragedy.
VITAL SIGNS empowers parents and caregivers with the tools to identify and address the early signs of behavioral health issues and substance use in their children. The program is organized into 8 sessions, each of which explores one of several youth risk factors. The sessions can be completed in series or as a stand-alone unit.
- Session 1: The World Has Changed
- Session 2: Self-Esteem
- Session 3: Bullying
- Session 4: Sexual Behavior
- Session 5: Alcohol
- Session 6: Vaping & Marijuana
- Session 7: Drugs
- Session 8: Mental Health & Suicide
Victoria’s Voice encourages parents to curate their personal parenting toolkit with the VITAL SIGNS knowledge, skills and strategies that will best serve them and their child at every stage of development:
- Drug awareness and education
- Clinical and parental insights
- Coping and life skills
- Conversation tips and starters
- Activities for strengthening your family foundation
- Strategies for addressing areas of emotional and behavioral concern
- Resources for further learning and support
