DEA and Federal Partners Support Continuity of Patient Treatment

When a nurse practitioner in New York surrendered his medical license after being arrested for allegedly over-prescribing oxymorphone to patients, some patients were potentially left without a medical provider.

When this occurs, DEA notifies the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Opioid Rapid Response Program (ORRP). This interagency effort helps lessen overdose risks among patients who lose access to a prescriber of opioids, medications for opioid use disorder, or other controlled substances.
