Charles Archie Wood

March 05, 1887 - March 21, 1921

Federal Prohibition Agent Charles A. Wood had been appointed Chief of Field Forces of the Combined Narcotics and Prohibition Agents in Texas after working in federal service for 12 years.

Following a lead that 23 cases of liquor were to be sent across the Mexican border, a federal raid was organized on March 21, 1921. Newspapers reported that in the two weeks prior to this raid there had been seven armed fights between federal agents and border smugglers.

Unfortunately, Agent Wood and his partner, Agent Stafford E. Beckett, lost their lives executing this search warrant on whiskey smugglers at the Shearman Ranch in El Paso, Texas. Agent Wood was 34 years of age at the time of his death.
