DEA Museum's Traveling Exhibit
Opens in West Virginia
The Museum’s traveling exhibit Drugs: Costs and Consequences is back on the road, touring the United States. On September 7, 2022, the exhibit opened at the West Virginia State Museum in Charleston. Its eye-opening, interactive, and updated displays will welcome visitors through January 2023, when it’s off to its next destination: Albany, Georgia.

Museum Launches Hands-On STEM and History Programs
Loops, whorls, and arches, oh my! In August, the Museum hosted its first in-person fingerprinting program in its reimagined education space. Students participated in one of two new hands-on programs on the science and history behind DEA’s work.

Stories from the Collection: Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup
In this episode of “Stories from the Collection,” the DEA Museum looks back on Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup, a patent medicine that contained morphine. The syrup was first introduced in the 19th century and marketed to calm small children, clean teeth, and freshen breath. Learn how the syrup’s manufacturers advertised the product and why it was removed from consumers’ shelves in the 20th century.

Behind the Scenes: Giving a Face to a Fallen Hero
In the mid-1990s, DEA unveiled a Wall of Honor memorializing employees who died in the line of duty. Retired Special Agent Richard Barrett tracked down eight portraits missing from the display, recovering their images from history. He found the last one in 2022, ensuring all of DEA’s fallen heroes are never forgotten.
