New on the Website: Gender-Responsive Policy & Practice Assessment
National Institute of Corrections sent this bulletin at 04/29/2014 12:02 PM EDTAvailable on the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) website, the Gender-Responsive Policy & Practice Assessment (GRPPA) is a process designed to guide assessment of research-based, gender-responsive policies and practices in jails, prisons, and community corrections programs for women. The GRPPA is intended for agencies to conduct an internal analysis of what they have in place and whether it is gender-responsive, to identify gaps and to begin to develop strategies to meet their objectives in improving management of justice involved women.
The GRPPA requires a collective effort from a team of agency staff to work together to determine how gender-responsive an agency and programs are." It is the first step to understand current practices so that reforms and/or enhancements can be planned, implemented and measured. The GRPPA model provides materials that will assist in pre-assessment activities, implementing the process, scoring the assessment, as well as templates for various phases of the assessment. For sites that conduct the Gender Responsive Policy and Practice Assessment and wish to begin planning or implementing change, Technical Assistance can be requested.
