Studies have shown that CBD products can be mislabeled with incorrect amounts of CBD and THC. THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis/marijuana and is tested for under the federal Drug-Free Workplace Program. Employees should be cautioned that usage of an unregulated CBD product may cause a positive drug test. |
|
CBD products that could cause a positive drug test are widely available. They are available online, in grocery stores, and drug stores without prescriptions. They are sold as edible products, lotions, shampoos, dietary supplements and numerous other products. These off the shelf products are illegal and have not been regulated or studied by the Food and Drug Administration.

The Drug and Alcohol Testing Branch saw a 35% decrease in the amount of drug tests from FY 2019 to FY 2020 (including the Department of the Interior and our 75 customers external to DOI). In FY 2021 Q1, the numbers contract wide were also low compared with previous fiscal years. Contract numbers for February 2021 show the highest number of tests being performed this fiscal year so far. |
