Nature Tots Eagle Adaptations
Friday, January 3, 10:00 - 10:45 am Keen eyesight, a long wingspan and strong talons are just a few of the bald eagle's unique adaptations that helps it survive. Learn more and make an eagle craft during this fun, interactive program. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Eagles and Osprey
Saturday, January 11, 10:00 - 11:00 am Get a chance to see live eagles and osprey with Nature's Educators in our auditorium. See these majestic birds up close and learn about their behaviors, diet, and adaptations. Don't forget to bring your camera!

Owl Pellets
Saturday, January 11, 1:00 - 1:45 pm Saturday, February 29, 1:00 - 1:45 pm Discover what owls eat by dissecting a real owl pellet! Use a bone chart to uncover the mystery of what your owl ate. Along the way you'll learn some interesting owl trivia too! Recommended for kids 7 and up.

The Masked Bandit
Saturday, January 18, 10:00 - 10:45 am Saturday, February 1, 10:00 - 10:45 am Join a naturalist and meet the Refuge's live black-footed ferrets. Discover how this fragile species was brought back from the brink of extinction and why ferrets were released into the wild at the Refuge. You'll also get a chance to see the ferrets have their mid-morning snack!

Eyes On Eagles
Saturday, January 18, 2:00 - 3:30 pm It’s the peak season for eagles to migrate to their winter home at the Refuge. Learn about bald eagles, their migration, nesting, behavior, and diet, during an auditorium presentation. Then caravan with a naturalist to their habitat to see these majestic birds.

Wildlife Viewing tour
Saturday, January 25, 9:30 - 11:00 am Saturday, February 22, 9:30 - 11:00 am The quiet of winter and a blanket of snow provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities! Join us on our Refuge bus for a guided wildlife viewing tour in search of bald eagles, ferruginous hawks, bison, coyotes, deer, and more!

Falcon Frenzy
Saturday, February 8, 10:00 - 11:00 am Nature’s Educators is back with four live falcons! Learn about the "fighter jets" of the bird world, their specialized features that help them catch other birds, and how they fly so quickly. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

Nature Tots - A Loud Winter's Nap
Thursday, February 13, 10:30 - 11:00 am Join us for a whimsical story about hibernation and learn how animals at the Refuge survive the cold winter months. Kids will meet our live tiger salamander and we'll make a fun craft too! Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Wildlife Drive
Take our 11-mile Wildlife Drive through the bison pasture, wetlands, prairie, and wooded areas. It’s also a great way to access hiking trails, go birding, and photograph the Refuge.

Lake Mary Construction Complete
One of the most popular places on the Refuge received a much needed repair in 2019. The Lake Mary boardwalk and two piers were replaced. This project will be completed by the end of December. Soon, visitors can stroll across the new boardwalk and enjoy the new piers overlooking the lake.

Black-footed Ferret Exhibit
The Refuge is home to black footed ferrets, one of North America’s most endangered mammals. Visit our resident ferrets in our free, indoor/outdoor live black-footed ferret exhibit.
Located north of the Visitor Center patio, the indoor exhibit is open Wednesdays - Sundays 9:00 am - 4:00 pm; outdoor exhibit is open sunrise to sunset.

Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge |

Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, located in Arvada, Colorado, is the smallest urban refuge in the country and part of the Colorado Front Range National Wildlife Refuge Complex. At 72 acres, the Refuge's habitat hosts over 120 species of birds and a variety of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.

Two Ponds Tuesdays
2nd Tuesday of each month, 8:00 – 11:00 am Time and again, people are encouraged to give back to their community’s natural resources and reduce their footprint on the planet. Urban wildlife refuges like Two Ponds serve an oasis for native wildlife and migrating birds throughout the year. So get outside and come help us improve the Refuge for animals and people alike. Tools and materials will be provided.

Winter Warriors
Saturday, January 11, 10:30 am - Noon Not all birds fly south for the winter. Many have acquired numerous adaptations and behaviors to help them survive. Join us on a nature hike to learn more about them, as well as the many ways humans can help. Participants will meet at the main kiosk entrance at Two Ponds. Reservations are not required.

Great Backyard Bird Count
Saturday, February 15, 7:00 - 9:00 am From migration patterns to diversity, biologists and bird enthusiasts, alike can learn much by knowing where the birds are. Visitors of all ages are welcome to explore Two Ponds and tally the number and species of birds present together on their own, and help update our Refuge birding list. Please email results to Seth_Beres@fws.gov.

Home School Habitat
3rd Thursday of each month, 9:00 – 11:00 am What better place to connect with nature then a national wildlife refuge close to home? Every month, Two Ponds offers a free drop-in program that provides experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom for families who educate their children themselves. Visit with a Refuge Manager and come explore the benefits of nature in a non-formal setting.
