First Fridays at the National Eagle and Wildlife Property Repository
November 1, 10:00 - 11:00 am or 2:00 - 3:00 pm December 6, 10:00 - 11:00 am or 2:00 - 3:00 pm Learn about the wildlife trade and illegal wildlife trafficking while you explore wildlife items that have been confiscated by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at our ports of entry. You will also learn about the Native American Eagle Feather Program. For ages 12 and up. Reservations by email (for Repository tours only): nwpr@fws.gov.

Archery
Saturday, November 2, 9:30 - 11:30 am Have you ever wanted to try archery? Now is your chance! A certified instructor will help you learn the basics of archery and how to improve your shot using the Refuge’s archery equipment. This program is for families with kids 8 years old and older, and adults. Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring water.

Amazing Antlers
Friday, November 15, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm Saturday, November 16, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm Saturday, November 23, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm Saturday, November 30, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm During the fall breeding season, mule and white-tailed deer bucks are a sight to see with their massive and impressive antlers. Learn about seasonal behavior and antler growth through a short presentation, and then spend time in the field exploring their habitat. Don't forget to bring your binoculars!

What a Hoot
Saturday, November 16, 10:00 - 11:00 am Join us in our auditorium for a presentation by Nature’s Educators with live owls! Learn all about these night hunters, and the physical and behavioral adaptations they have that help them survive in the wild. Don’t miss this chance to see four different owls up close and personal.

The Masked Bandit
Sunday, November 17, 10:00 - 10:45 am Saturday, December 21, 10:00 - 10:45 am Join a naturalist and meet the Refuge's live black-footed ferrets. Discovery how this fragile species was brought back from the brink of extinction and why ferrets were released into the wild at the Refuge. You'll also get a chance to see the ferrets have their mid-morning snack!

Seed Collection
Saturday, November 23, Noon - 2:00 pm Help Refuge staff gather flowering shrub seeds to be used in prairie restoration projects throughout the Refuge. These plants provide late season nectar sources for pollinators like bats, birds, bees, and butterflies while they are in the area.

Wildlife Viewing Tour
Saturday, November 23, 9:30 - 11:00 am Saturday, December 14, 9:30 - 11:00 am The quiet of winter and a blanket of snow provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities! Join us on our Refuge bus for a guided wildlife viewing tour in search of bald eagles, ferruginous hawks, bison, coyotes, deer, and more. Groups up to 10 are welcome.

Planting for Pollinators
December 7, Noon - 2:00 pm Assist Refuge staff by enhancing habitat for pollinators by planting native wildflowers along the Lake Ladora trail. These plants provide an ongoing nectar source for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. Be ready to work outdoors for 1-1.5 hours, wear closed toe shoes, bring water, and sunscreen.

Talon Talk
Saturday, December 28, 10:00 - 11:00 am Get a chance to see live raptors up close and personal in this auditorium program by Nature’s Educators. Discover the characteristics that define raptors and why they are important to our ecosystems. You will also learn about the various types of birds of prey found all over the world and what it takes to care for a bird of prey.

Vote for your Favorite Refuge Photos!
Stop by the Refuge Visitor Center through November 30 and vote for your three favorite Refuge photos from the 9th Annual Refuge Amateur Photo Contest. Winning photos will be announced in early December. Winners will have their photos made into postcards, which will be sold at Nature’s Nest Books and Gifts inside the Visitor Center.

Wildlife Drive
Take our 11-mile Wildlife Drive through the bison pasture, wetlands, prairie, and wooded areas. It’s also a great way to access hiking trails, go birding, and photograph the Refuge.

2019 Fishing Season
Catch-and-release fishing is allowed at Lakes Mary and Ladora on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from sunrise to sunset. The last day of the 2019 fishing season is November 30. Please note, portions of Lake Mary are closed to construct a new boardwalk. The new fishing piers are complete!
To fish, a signed Refuge permit, a Colorado state license for anglers 16 years and older, and a $3.00 daily fee is required. High school and college students can fish fee free with a current student ID. No live bait and barbless hooks only.

Black-footed Ferret Exhibit
The Refuge is home to black footed ferrets, one of North America’s most endangered mammals. Visit our resident ferrets in our free, indoor/outdoor live black-footed ferret exhibit.
Located north of the Visitor Center patio, the indoor exhibit is open Wednesdays - Sundays 9:00 am - 4:00 pm; outdoor exhibit is open sunrise to sunset.

Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, located in Arvada, Colorado, is the smallest urban refuge in the country and part of the Colorado Front Range National Wildlife Refuge Complex. At 72 acres, the Refuge's habitat hosts over 120 species of birds and a variety of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.

Two Ponds Tuesdays
2nd Tuesday of each month, 8:00 – 11:00 am Time and again, people are encouraged to give back to their community’s natural resources and reduce their footprint on the planet. Urban wildlife refuges like Two Ponds serve an oasis for native wildlife and migrating birds throughout the year. So get outside and come help us improve the Refuge for animals and people alike. Tools and materials will be provided.

Veteran’s Appreciation Walk
Saturday, November 2, 9:00 – 11:00 am Invite a Veteran on a walk to enjoy the natural landscape while reflecting upon our many freedoms, and say “Thank you” to those who served our country. Sponsored by Founders and Friends of Two Ponds NWR in partnership with Majestic View Nature Center, the Veterans Walk will begin at 9:00 am in the parking lot of Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge and will end at Majestic View.

Winter Warriors
Saturday, December 14, 10:00 am – Noon Not all birds fly south for the winter. Many have acquired numerous adaptions and behaviors to help them survive. Join us on a nature hike to learn more about them - as well as the many ways humans can help. Participants will meet at the main kiosk entrance at Two Ponds - and reservations are not required.

Home School Habitat
3rd Thursday of each month, 9:00 – 11:00 am What better place to connect with nature then a national wildlife refuge close to home? Every month, Two Ponds offers a free drop-in program that provides experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom for families who educate their children themselves. Visit with a Refuge Manager and come explore the benefits of nature in a non-formal setting.
