Secretary Haaland, Rappahannock Tribe to Celebrate Reacquisition of Sacred Site in Virginia
WASHINGTON — On Friday, April 1, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland will join the Rappahannock Tribe, Chesapeake Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and other partners to celebrate the Tribe’s historic reacquisition of 465 acres at Fones Cliffs, a sacred site located on the eastern side of the Rappahannock River in Virginia.
Fones Cliffs will be permanently owned by the Tribe and is located within the authorized boundary of the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The land will be publicly accessible and held with a permanent conservation easement conveyed to the Service.
