Monarch Butterfly on a Purple Coneflower in Michigan Jim Hudgins, 2015 Photographic print U.S. Department of the Interior Museum, OSAC 07203
In addition to being one of the most recognizable species in North America, the monarch butterfly is also an important pollinator whose population reflects the health of the landscape. Monarchs migrate thousands of miles over several generations from Mexico, across the United States, to Canada. Since habitat loss and fragmentation have occurred throughout the butterfly's range, monarch recovery is among the priorities of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Efforts include public education programs and broad-based partnerships encouraging citizen science and habitat restoration.
This colorful, signed photographic print in our art collection is by Jim Hudgins. He began his career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1987 and was most recently the Partners for Fish and Wildlife State Coordinator for Michigan prior to retiring in 2018.
