The Energy CLASS Program promotes building and energy management in school districts across America by offering trainings, resources, and a peer-to-peer learning network of schools seeking energy improvements. On August 5, the Renew America’s Schools program released an extensive library of free, on-demand Energy CLASS trainings. Through this resource, schools can now access over 35 hours of trainings across topics such as building science, energy management, indoor air quality, and procurement strategies.
Building on these trainings, DOE is excited to open applications for the 2024-2025 Energy CLASS, an opportunity to receive coaching and 1:1 expert advice on strategic energy management, project development, funding pathways, and related topics to advance their district’s sustainability goals. Energy CLASS will accept an estimated 50 school districts. Energy champions from selected districts will work together to achieve self-identified energy project goals through an outcome-based peer learning model.
Through Energy CLASS coaching and trainings, past participating school districts have successfully:
- Identified new sources of external funding for energy projects
- Created new energy or sustainability plans to guide districts
- Benchmarked energy use in school facilities
- Prioritized cost-effective energy upgrades
- Learned to craft compelling applications for competitive grants
