February Webinar Recap: ESPC Lessons from a Sustainability Practitioner in K-12
|
On February 27th, the ESPC Campaign was fortunate to have LeeAnn Kittle, Executive Director of Sustainability at Denver Public Schools join Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL) to share her lessons learned on what it takes to implement a successful ESPC in K-12 facilities and discuss the value of using eProject eXpress for project data management. LeeAnn spoke to the strong sustainability achievements of Denver County Public Schools and the lessons learned along the way while completing the 2nd largest ESPC project in Colorado history.
Key takeaways include:
- Build support for ESPC projects across your energy and leadership teams.
Engage front line facility staff early and ensure their voices are part of the decision-making process.
- Identify an internal ESPC champion.
Having someone within the organization who can translate ESPC information across audiences and support collaboration within the organization can increase buy-in for these investments.
- Prioritize M&V tracking and use robust tools like eProject eXpress.
Mistakes happen in large projects. Independent review of measurement and verification (M&V) data is key to being able to rectify differences in guaranteed vs actual savings. eProject eXpress is a free, secure web-based platform for project and M&V data management and reporting.
Download the webinar presentation here. A recording of the entire conversation will be made available on the eProject Builder YouTube channel. To learn more about ePX, see the resource highlight below.

Resource Spotlight: eProject eXpress (ePX)
eProject eXpress (ePX) is a free data management tool tailored to meet the needs of state and local government users to track, report, and demonstrate the ongoing value of their energy projects.
As a web-based application, ePX offers customers, their energy service providers, and state energy offices a centralized place to preserve, analyze, and share energy project and measurement and verification data. Project-level data management is a key aspect of successful ESPC projects, and ePX equips organizations to track and report on performance throughout the entire life of the project and beyond. That’s right, even with staff turnover ESPC project data in ePX remains with your organization in perpetuity!
ePX is the preferred tool for ESPC Campaign partners. As a DOE-managed tool, ePX streamlines the data reporting requirements for state and local users and enables seamless submissions toward the collective ESPC Campaign goal of $1 billion in M&V savings by 2030.
