Program Updates from National Labs
ACTION: Seeking Input on Client Education Resource Needs
Through support from WAP, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is developing resources for the WAP network to support client education. Following a thorough review of existing client education resources, NREL identified a need for measure-specific education materials that Subgrantees can share with clients. Examples might include: a pamphlet explaining how their new ducted heat pump system will function; a video explaining the benefits of wall, attic, or crawlspace insulation; and so on. NREL is seeking feedback from the WAP network to help prioritize which new resources to develop. Please complete the form to share your ideas.
Exploring Careers in Weatherization
The Exploring Careers in Weatherization template slide deck was developed for state and local agencies that are part of the WAP network. This template is an editable resource for Subgrantees to use when presenting on WAP careers to students or prospective workers at high schools, community colleges, technical schools, or other similar groups. The template was designed to accompany and/or complement the customizable Weatherization Career Flyers available through the National Association for State Community Services Programs (NASCSP) website.
Modified Fuel Price Indices Calculator
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) team launched a new Excel-based Modified Fuel Price Indices (FPI) calculator which generates modified fuel costs and fuel price indices in accordance with Option 2 in WPN 22-10. The modified values can seamlessly integrate into versions v8.9 and v10.05 of Weatherization Assistant, or be added to other energy audit tools that accept modified fuel price indices. The calculator and other useful tools can be found on the ORNL Weatherization website.
New Energy Auditor Resources Available for the Weatherization Network
The Energy Auditor Resource Repository includes new and existing resources to help energy auditors access relevant information for accurate data collection and analysis of residential buildings while in the field. Included are helpful calculators and building science tools covering topics such as insulation and building components, appliance and base load information, diagnostic testing, health and safety, and more! Check out the repository and share with interested staff.
Be sure to explore the updated Refrigerator and Freezer Energy Rating Online Search Tool. This tool complements the existing downloadable version, allowing you to discover the estimated energy consumption ranges of these appliances for the U.S. consumer market in a convenient online format. Users are able to search various appliance brands, types, model numbers, years manufactured, and more.
Standard Work Specifications (SWS) Updates: Requesting Feedback on Redline Changes and Draft New Specifications
NREL is pleased to release the 2023 SWS Redline Report. This report is part of the five-year maintenance cycle of the SWS that began in Fiscal Year 2020. The purpose of the report is to communicate upcoming changes to the SWS while providing stakeholders an opportunity to respond to such redline changes before the final SWS update is published in Fiscal Year 2025.
NREL also added five Draft New Specifications, which are now live on the SWS site: Integrated LED Retrofit Kit, Wood or Pellet Stove, Aerosolized Envelope Sealant, Extruded Polystyrene Retrofit Wall System, and Roof Interconnected Photovoltaics.
NREL encourages industry stakeholders to review and provide feedback on both the SWS redline changes and the Draft New Specifications. Stakeholders can view the redline version of an adjudicated comment on the 2023 SWS Redline Report or by visiting the List of 2023 Redline Details and Specifications page and make comments directly on the SWS site by clicking the comment button next to the specification to provide feedback.
