Renew America's Nonprofits Grant

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of State and Community Energy Programs (SCEP), the Schools and Nonprofits team is excited to launch the Renew America’s Nonprofits grant – a first-of-its-kind engagement between DOE and the nonprofit sector which recognizes the central role that nonprofits play in American’s lives, and the nation’s clean energy transition. Please see the updates below for information on the current funding opportunity.
Please continue to send your questions to nonprofits@doe.gov.
Watch the Webinar Recordings
The questions, comments, and concerns expressed during the webinars will be addressed through a public Q&A spreadsheet, which is updated weekly on Infrastructure eXCHANGE. Recordings are also available on Infrastructure eXCHANGE.
Top 3 Takeaways from the Webinar
-
The application process is currently open to Prime Recipients. These nonprofits will sub-award to a portfolio of nonprofit owned-and-operated buildings, to ensure the program benefits flow down to community-based organizations.
-
A prospective Prime Recipient may include its own buildings in its portfolio. Portfolios may be defined at the application stage, or a Prime may outline a plan to recruit sub-recipients post-award - including utilizing the Teaming List. Potential Subrecipients are encouraged to join the Teaming List in order to begin connecting with prospective Primes.
-
The program focuses on energy efficiency improvements. Renewable energy will not be funded through this specific program.
Attend Upcoming Office Hours
DOE will hold office hours to highlight key questions on the Q&A, assist with navigating the Q&A spreadsheet, and present possible program scenarios. We will address questions posted in the chat by referring to published answers, while collecting new questions for later publication in the Q&A. You can register for one or more of the Informational Webinars listed below.

Exciting news, the Renew America's Nonprofits grant is open! DOE is using a 'nonprofits helping nonprofits' aggregator model to support an efficient and inclusive experience. Proposals will be submitted to DOE by nonprofit 501(c)(3) applicants interested in serving as “Prime recipients” who will eventually assemble a portfolio of nonprofit buildings owned and operated by 501(c)(3) organizations in need of energy efficiency upgrades.
