The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of State and Community Energy Programs (SCEP) published a Notice of Intent (NOI) yesterday, April 11, 2023, to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for the Renew America’s Nonprofits grant program, a $50M competitive program promoting energy efficiency in nonprofits across America.
Grant funds would support the installation of materials to reduce energy or fuel use in buildings owned and operated by 501(c)(3) nonprofits, decreasing utility costs, reducing carbon emissions, and redirecting savings toward mission-critical services. The FOA is anticipated to be released in May 2023.
DOE intends to use an aggregation model to implement the Renew America’s Nonprofits program. In this model, successful nonprofit applicants will be “Prime” recipients of the awards, characterized by their ability to curate a portfolio of “Subrecipients” - nonprofits seeking to implement energy-efficiency upgrades in buildings they own and operate - and to provide technical assistance, program, and project-management for these organizations.
SCEP is compiling a Teaming List to encourage widespread participation in this initiative, and to encourage innovative partnership models.
- Potential Prime recipients may use this list to develop a portfolio of Subrecipients, or to connect with “Partner” organizations that can complement the services they offer to subrecipients.
- Potential Subrecipients may use the Teaming list to connect with potential Prime recipients.
- Potential Partner organizations – which do not have to be 501(c)(3) nonprofits – may use the Teaming List to indicate their interest and capacity for supporting potential Prime recipients.
How to participate in the NOI process:
-
Join or refer the Teaming List.
-
Visit the Nonprofit Website for a program overview, news, announcements, resources, and more. The website will help interested parties explore avenues for participation and join the Teaming List to connect with potential partners.
-
Read the NOI from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on Infrastructure Exchange (Please note: SCEP has recently transitioned from EERE to Infrastructure eXCHANGE, a new DOE funding opportunity announcements platform).
If you need additional support, please reach out to NonprofitsFOA@doe.gov.
This Notice is issued so that interested parties are aware of the SCEP’s intention to issue this FOA in the near term. All information contained in this Notice is subject to change. SCEP will not respond to questions concerning this Notice. Once the FOA has been released, SCEP will provide an avenue for potential Applicants to submit questions.
