Call for Nominations: Director of the Enabling Technologies and Partnerships Division within the Fusion Energy Sciences Program
Dear colleagues,
The Department of Energy Office of Science Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) program is recruiting a Director for the Enabling Technologies and Partnerships (ETP) Division. I am writing to request your help in identifying candidates for this position, including self-nominations.
Each nominated individual will be sent a letter providing information on the position and how to apply and will be encouraged to submit an application. Please send your suggestions to me, Linda Horton at Linda.Horton@doe.gov, or Mariam Elsayed at Mariam.Elsayed@doe.gov by November 5, 2026. Please include their name, position, organization information, and an email address.
The ETP Division advances programs that will close the gaps identified in the Department’s Science & Technology Roadmap. To address key scientific and technological gaps, ETP fosters and supports multidisciplinary, multi-institutional team research that unites discovery science, innovation, and translational research. To accelerate commercial viability of fusion energy, the Division cultivates public-private partnerships, to pool resources to resolve shared technical challenges. ETP also champions the development of novel capabilities and enabling technologies designed to close the fusion fuel cycle, investigate emergent and compact toroidal concepts, and support high energy density physics and advance inertial fusion energy.
For more information about the FES program and initiatives supported by the ETP Division, please go to: https://www.energy.gov/science/fes/fusion-energy-sciences.
The ETP Division Director (DD) is responsible for the overall management of the Division in consultation with the Associate Director of FES. Key duties include:
- Strategic program planning
- Budget formulation and execution
- Management of federal and rotating technical staff
The DD position is within the ranks of the U.S. government’s Senior Executive Service (SES). Members of the SES serve in key positions just below Presidential appointees.
For future applicants, note that only complete applications will be considered. All required documents including educational transcripts (unofficial transcripts are accepted) must be submitted with the application.
Please feel free to share this letter with your colleagues. Thank you for your help and we look forward to receiving your suggestions.
Sincerely,
Dr. Linda Horton
Acting Associate Director for Fusion Energy Sciences
