DOE Announces Accelerator Stewardship Notice of Funding Opportunity
The Department of Energy’s Office of Science is inviting applications for technology research and development (R&D) focused on advancing particle accelerator capabilities. Particle accelerators are indispensable tools for generating controlled beams of particles and radiation. Advancements in this field will not only benefit fundamental high-energy physics research but also have broad applications in other physical sciences research, medicine, industry, and national security.
Applications are sought to conduct (1) cross-cutting use-inspired basic R&D to advance the state-of-the-art in accelerator science and technology; (2) collaborative R&D that strengthens domestic suppliers of accelerator technology. The research funded through this opportunity is expected to lead to significant breakthroughs in accelerator performance, efficiency, and versatility. Additional information about the program’s aims and prior awards is available at the program website: https://science.osti.gov/HEP.
Please see the funding opportunity for more details, including eligibility and application information. Total funding is $15,000,000, with $7,500,000 in FY 2026 funding and $7,500,000 in outyear funding contingent on congressional appropriations.
An informational webinar will be held on March 17, 2026, at 12pm ET. Register on Zoom.
