The BES Early Career Network (ECN) is thrilled to announce a Fireside Chat with Prof. John Mauro. Fireside Chats are virtual, hour-long events where an ECN member talks with the speaker about their career path, lessons they have learned, and any advice they have for early-career scientists, followed by questions from the audience. The purpose of BES ECN Fireside Chats is to create a platform where graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career scientists can be inspired by scientific thought leaders, gain insights into diverse career paths, and foster meaningful discussions. Speaker
Dr. John C. Mauro is Dorothy Pate Enright Professor and Head of Materials Science and Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. Best known as co-inventor of Corning Gorilla® Glass, John is the author of 400 scientific publications and is Editor-in-Chief of Journal of the American Ceramic Society. He is the author of Materials Kinetics: Transport and Rate Phenomena and co-author of Fundamentals of Inorganic Glasses, 3rd edition. John is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors with 85 granted U.S. patents. He is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering and the World Academy of Ceramics.

The goal is to share best practices between centers, provide workforce development opportunities, and create a network of early career scientists with a passion for energy science. |
