Grant Writing 101: Tips & Tricks

This webinar will give an introduction for students, postdocs, and early career professors/staff scientists on how to write successful proposals and identify funding opportunities within the DOE Office of Basic Energy Sciences (DOE BES). The format will consist of two 20-minute presentations from the speakers, followed by a 20-min Q&A with the audience. This webinar is free and open to the public.

Speaker
Dr. Aura Gimm is currently the Program Manager for Biomolecular Materials at DOE BES. She has extensive experience directing basic and applied research programs, including oversight of the Department of Defense science and technology investments and modernization efforts in biological sciences. She also has managed multidisciplinary basic research portfolios in biological materials with the Air Force and managed Research Centers on nanomaterials and biotechnology with the Army. Before her federal roles, Dr. Gimm taught biomedical engineering at Duke University.

Dr. Neal Armstrong is a Regents Professor (Emeritus) of Chemistry/Biochemistry & Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona and the current Director of the SPECS EFRC. Over his five-decade career, he has directed or co-directed multiple research centers supported by the DOE BES and National Science Foundation. The result of that research support has been 49 Ph.D. graduates, about 20+ M.S. graduates and about 35 postdocs and visiting scientists. Throughout his career Dr. Armstrong has conducted consulting, scientific oversight, and review activities for private and government laboratories.

The DOE Basic Energy Sciences - Early Career Network (BES ECN) is a group of graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career scientists in BES centers. The goal is to share best practices between centers, provide workforce development opportunities, and create a network of early career scientists with a passion for energy science. |
