The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science today announced up to $5 million in federal funding for research projects that will help universities and non-profit organizations advance the fundamental understanding of basic plasma science and engineering.
This funding, which has been made available under the Office of Fusion Energy Science’s General Plasma Science program, supports research at the frontiers of basic and low temperature plasma science. The aim of this funding opportunity announcement is to increase the understanding of plasma processes including:
-
Dynamical processes in laboratory, space, and astrophysical plasma, such as magnetic reconnection, plasma dynamo, shocks, turbulence cascade, structures, waves, flows, and their interactions;
-
Behavior of dusty plasma, non-neutral, single-component matter or antimatter plasma, and ultra-cold neutral plasma; and
-
Plasma chemistry and processes in low temperature plasma, interfacial plasma, and interaction of plasma with materials and/or biomaterials.
Please see the funding opportunity announcement for details regarding agency contacts, eligibility, and application information.
