The Critical Minerals & Materials Matchmaker (CM3) survey is now open for submissions. This survey is designed to gather information from organizations involved in various critical minerals and materials supply chains, supporting the development of an online resource to facilitate networking and collaboration across industries. Survey contributions will provide a foundation to build the Matchmaker tool which will be made available soon afterwards.
The Navajo Nation and FECM’s Office of Resource Sustainability entered into a memorandum of understanding. The parties intend to collaborate to build capacity, provide needed technical assistance, share data regarding undocumented orphaned wells for the direct benefit of the Navajo Nation and its people, enhance coordination, and maximize the benefit of both public and private investment in the development of an equitable energy future for the Navajo Nation.
FECM announced $10.2 million for four projects that will focus on developing critical mineral and material alternatives and substitutes through a broad range of domestic resources, including recycled materials, mine waste, industrial waste, and ore deposits.
FECM released the final Responsible Carbon Management Initiative Principles accompanied by resources to guide their implementation. This initiative aims to encourage and recognize those in the industry pursuing the highest levels of safety, environmental stewardship, accountability, community engagement, and societal benefits in carbon management projects.
FECM announced up to $52.5 million in funding to advance carbon dioxide removal technologies that reduce legacy carbon dioxide pollution by removing it directly from the atmosphere to counter-balance emissions from hard-to-abate sectors. The Commercial Direct Air Capture Pilot Prize, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will support the development and deployment of direct air capture pilot projects that have demonstrated commercial readiness. Deadline to apply is February 7, 2025.
FECM announced it will make up to $54.4 million in additional funding available to advance diverse carbon management approaches that reduce carbon dioxide pollution. Deadline to apply is October 14, 2024.
FECM announced it will make up to $127.5 million in federal funding available to support the development of carbon dioxide capture, removal, and conversion test centers for cement manufacturing facilities and power plants. Deadline to apply is October 31, 2024.
FECM announced $8.8 million for 11 university-based research and development projects to improve the performance of hydrogen-fueled turbines. The selected projects will develop advanced materials and components that can better manage and withstand the extreme environment generated during hydrogen combustion to enable the use of up to 100% clean hydrogen in gas turbines for low-carbon power generation.
NETL and international partners completed a long-term gas hydrates production testing at the Prudhoe Bay Unit on the Alaska North Slope, a critical milestone in DOE’s Alaska gas hydrates research and development project.
The DOE's Voucher Program is designed to help technology companies, jurisdictions, or manufacturers access third-party validation (subject matter expertise and testing capabilities) to advance their technologies, businesses, or energy projects to the next level. This support is crucial for overcoming commercialization hurdles and bringing innovative technologies to market. Deadline to apply is September 12, 2024.
