A Message from Brad Crabtree, Assistant Secretary
Fall is off to an exciting and busy start for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM).
Earlier this month, I joined government and industry leaders for Africa Oil Week 2022. During the event, I had the opportunity to provide two keynote addresses and lead a workshop, where we discussed the role of hydrogen and natural gas in Africa's clean energy future. Be sure to read our new Africa Oil Week recap blog for more information on our discussions.
We are also gearing up for the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) in November. COP27 represents a defining moment as we work to address climate change. Be sure to keep an eye on the FECM social media channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter for more updates in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,
Brad Crabtree
Assistant Secretary for the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management
FECM is participating in the American-Made EnergyTech University Prize (EnergyTech UP) from DOE’s Office of Technology Transitions. EnergyTech UP is a collegiate competition challenging multidisciplinary student teams to develop and present a business plan that leverages national laboratory-developed or other high-potential energy technologies. FECM will be awarding a $25,000 bonus prize to teams who develop the most innovative plan focused on carbon dioxide removal.
Anyone interested in competing is encouraged to register for an informational webinar today, October 26 at 3:00 p.m. EDT to hear prize administrators share information about how to compete, provide ideas about energy technologies teams can use to develop their plans, and answer questions from potential participants.
