This month, DOE celebrated the two-year anniversary of the enactment of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the largest long-term investment in America’s infrastructure in nearly a century. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provided DOE with $62 billion, of which OCED received $25 billion for clean energy demonstrations, to lay the foundation for a strong, people-centered clean energy economy that supports new economic opportunities, lowers costs for American families and businesses, and revitalizes and strengthens America’s global manufacturing competitiveness. Highlights of the investment include accelerating the development of clean energy technologies through several OCED programs, including: $7 billion to launch seven Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs, up to $1.2 billion for two Regional Direct Air Capture Hubs, and $325 million for 15 Long-Duration Energy Storage demonstration projects. DOE announced 13 winners for Phase One of the Manufacture of Advanced Key Energy Infrastructure Technologies (MAKE IT) Prize - Strategies Track. Developed in partnership with OCED, the Office of Technology Transitions and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, the MAKE IT Prize is a multiphase, two-track competition to catalyze domestic manufacturing of critical components for the clean energy infrastructure. The Strategies Track supports communities developing roadmaps for bringing vibrant manufacturing activities to their regions. Learn more about the MAKE IT Prize here.
DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) for funding to advance the national clean hydrogen strategy. This potential funding will help reduce the cost and improve the performance of critical elements of hydrogen infrastructure while streamlining and improving processes essential to the efficient, timely, and equitable deployment of clean hydrogen technologies. Learn more about the NOI here.
OCED released its Federal Energy Funding for Rural and Remote Areas: A Guide for Communities to assist interested parties seeking federal funding and support local energy projects in rural or remote communities. This guide provides an overview of federal programs that provide funding through various offices at the Department of Energy and other agencies. View the guide here.

Join OCED and the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management for the third annual Carbon Management Day. Corresponding to the atomic mass of carbon, 12.01, a webinar is planned for December 1 to celebrate Carbon Management Day. The webinar will feature a fireside chat with DOE carbon management leaders who will share information on DOE’s carbon management initiatives. Learn more about the webinar and register here.
Earlier this month, OCED cohosted an in-person community briefing in Louisiana to share more details on the Direct Air Capture (DAC) Hub project selected for award negotiations, Project Cypress, and to hear feedback and questions from local stakeholders. View the briefing slides here. Learn more about the DAC Hubs Engagement Opportunities here.
As part of DOE’s commitment to transparency, OCED cohosted virtual community briefings for each H2Hub to provide local communities and workers a forum to learn about and provide input on the selected projects. Learn more about the H2Hubs Local Engagement Opportunities here.
