OCED released its first Multi-Year Program Plan, which describes the broad and interlinked programs the office will pursue to achieve its mission. The plan features strategies and frameworks to assess success at the program and portfolio levels and details the structure that underpins the OCED demonstration approach. This includes how the office manages projects and portfolio risk and how engagement is employed to inform continuous improvement across the portfolio. Applicants for OCED funding are encouraged to review the plan to better understand OCED objectives and inform preparation for funding applications.
OCED, in collaboration with the Office of Technology Transitions and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, announced a Voucher Program to provide $27.5 million in commercialization support to organizations who are bringing innovative energy technologies to market nationwide. The program will lower barriers that industry, utilities, technology developers, small businesses, tribal, state, and local governments, and other organizations from underrepresented communities may face accessing commercialization facilities or obtaining expensive third-party subject matter expertise needed to advance their technologies, business, or energy projects to the next level. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 8 Office announced a grant competition for an Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (EJ TCTAC). EPA is offering up to $10 million for this grant opportunity to help communities and other environmental justice stakeholders address concerns in EPA’s Region 8, which includes the states of Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming, and 28 Tribes. Under this new Region 8 grant opportunity, EPA will partner with DOE and OCED to select a qualified applicant to deliver much-needed assistance to the communities within Region 8.
OCED intends to issue a funding opportunity for up to $50 million for distributed energy systems demonstrations to support projects that de-risk technologies needed to manage variable generation, control flexible loads, and integrate energy storage, electric vehicle charging, and other facilities into the U.S. transmission and distribution grids. OCED responded to Concept Papers submitted for the Clean Energy Demonstration Program on Current and Former Mine Land (CEML) Funding Opportunity Announcement. The CEML program will demonstrate the technical and economic viability of deploying clean energy on current (operating) and former (abandoned or inactive) mine land. Projects selected through this funding opportunity will help create high-quality and long-term jobs, spur economic development, and provide other direct benefits to the local community.

EPA is hosting an informational webinar and networking session on the EJ TCTAC grant competition to allow applicants ask general questions about the request for application and participate in facilitated interactions between interested organizations. This event is part of the EJ TCTAC grant competition for funding up to $10 million to help communities and other environmental justice stakeholders in the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains states access federal assistance and resources to address environmental and energy justice concerns.
