Alaska Highlights Benefits of SEFI Designation for Developing Critical Minerals Projects

As reported by North of 60 Mining News, the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) was one of the first institutions in the nation to be determined by LPO to be an eligible State Energy Financing Institution (SEFI). AIDEA Executive Director Randy Ruaro explained what that means for Alaska: 

"There was some legislation passed that gave the federal Department of Energy roughly $280 billion in loan guarantee authority under what they call a Title 17 program, and that same legislation gave even better terms on borrowing those funds if the entity is a state energy financing institution. Because we are a SEFI, our leverage is greater than the private sector."

Maryland is First U.S. State to Pass Vehicle-to-Grid Legislation, Alongside Virtual Power Plant Tariff Rules

The Maryland General Assembly passed the Distributed Renewable Integration and Vehicle Electrification (DRIVE) Act, on April 2. As reported by Energy Storage News, "In addition to its “first-of-a-kind” treatment of bidirectional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, the act also enables the creation of distributed energy resource (DER) virtual power plants that pool the capabilities of home solar PV, batteries, smart thermostats, and other equipment."

Virginia Clean Energy Bank Proposal Moves Forward

As reported by Virginia Public Media reported, "A bill that would set up a bank to better position the state to receive federal clean energy loans was sent back to Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s desk by legislators." The bill would establish the Virginia Clean Energy Innovation Bank and provide it with initial funding of $10 million. According to a spokesperson for the Governor, "The Governor has until May 17th to act on legislation returned to his desk by the General Assembly."

On April 30, the Cleantech Alliance hosted a webinar, LPO 102 Session - State Energy Financing Institutions, with LPO Senior Consultants Hans Riemer and Steve Boyd to share how to work with a SEFI to qualify a project for LPO financing, best practices, and more. Watch the recording.

The White House and LPO recently hosted the Building Performance Standards (BPS) webinar. Watch the recording, download the presentation, and read the blog to learn how LPO can be a financing resource for projects that significantly impact building energy consumption—particularly where projects are seeking to achieve important policy frameworks, such as compliance with state or local BPS laws. 

DOE's Office of State and Community Energy Partnerships hosted LPO for a webinar about loan strategies applicable to school energy improvements.
