LM's Kate Whysner and LM support contractor Peter Schillig welcomed students from Navajo Technical University for a STEM workshop at the Shiprock, New Mexico, Disposal Site. The students learned about site hydrogeology and the groundwater remediation system, including the extraction wells and evaporation pond. They also learned about institutional controls around the site and within the floodplain area. LM's Angelita Denny rounded out the workshop answering questions about the Mentorship for Environmental Scholars Program (MES). MES is a paid, 10-week summer internship for college students to research opportunities in the areas of science. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 10. For more information click here.
