DOE to Announce $25 Million Tribal Energy Funding Opportunity This Spring
Planned FOA Will Solicit Applications to Deploy Clean Energy Technology on Tribal Lands
 On Jan. 17, the Office of Indian Energy issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) to release a $25 million Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) this spring to support clean energy technology deployment on Tribal lands.
Through this planned FOA, the Office of Indian Energy intends to solicit applications from Indian Tribes, which include Alaska Native Regional Corporations and Village Corporations, Intertribal Organizations, and Tribal Energy Development Organizations to install clean energy technology on Tribal lands.

Reminder: Tribal Consultation Order and Policy Comments Due by January 31
Strengthening Tribal Consultation and Engagement with Tribal Leaders
 The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking input from Tribal Leaders across Indian Country and Alaska on proposed revisions to the policy and order governing Tribal consultation and engagement.
On Dec. 11, 2023, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm hosted a virtual Tribal consultation to discuss the proposed changes. You can find full information, including video recordings from the session, and an overview of the proposed changes in the consultation slides, on DOE’s Tribal Consultation page.

Share Input on Solar-Plus-Storage Deployment in Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities
DOE’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) is seeking input on the greatest challenges to successful solar deployment and equitable distribution of its benefits to low-income and disadvantaged communities amongst a wide variety of stakeholders.
State, territory, Tribal, local government agencies, utilities, solar developers and installers, solar industry organizations, subscriber management organizations, community-based organizations, financial institutions, consumer advocacy organizations, community action agencies, environmental justice organizations, community members, and other stakeholders are encouraged to download to the Request for Information and submit responses by Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. ET.

Successful candidates will have a background in project finance, renewable energy and/or with Tribal communities.

FY24 Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants
$562 million Apply by April 17.
On Jan. 18, the request and application period for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grant funding began.
Supported by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these grants help modernize the electric grid to reduce the impacts of climate-driven extreme weather and natural disasters while also ensuring the reliability of the power sector.
Applicants have until April 17, 2024, to request FY24 grant funds.
Clean Energy Technology Deployment on Tribal Lands - 2024 (DE-FOA-0003297)
$25 million Notice of Intent announced; funding opportunity anticipated spring 2024.
On Jan. 17, 2024, the Office of Indian Energy issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) to make $25 million available to support clean energy technology deployment on Tribal lands. Awards from this NOI are anticipated to range from $100,000 to $2.5 million or from $250,000 to $5 million, depending on the Area of Interest.
Transmission Siting and Economic Development Program
$300 million Applications due April 5.
This initiative is designed to overcome state and local challenges to expanding transmission capacity while also supporting communities along major new and upgraded lines. DOE will support two distinct categories of activities related to the development of new or upgraded interstate and offshore transmission lines: siting and permitting and economic development.

Tribal Offshore Wind Summit

The Yurok Tribe is hosting the first-ever Tribal Offshore Wind Summit where tribal leaders from the West and East Coasts will critically examine current and future floating offshore wind projects. While the two-day summit is open to all, there will be closed sessions for tribes from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on both days.
Grid Resilience State/Tribal Formula Grant Informational Webinar

DOE’s Grid Deployment Office will hold an informational webinar focused on the FY24 Administrative and Legal Requirements Document (ALRD). This webinar will focus on next steps for New Grant Applicants (eligible applicants that did not submit a grant application for FY22/23).

National American Indian Housing Council Legislative Conference
