FEMP hosted its Winter Workshop series the week of March 16, convening more than 1,000 participants across 15 virtual sessions focused on federal energy and water management. Attendees from 31 federal agencies, along with private-sector and technical partners, engaged in practical, implementation-focused training designed to support federal agency mission objectives, strengthen reliability, and reduce costs.
Sessions covered core topics such as energy audits, O&M, fleet management, and federal acquisition, while also exploring advanced subjects including performance contracting, advanced nuclear energy, data center modernization, and cybersecurity. As part of FEMP’s workforce development efforts, these series help agencies build the
capabilities needed to plan, finance, implement, and maintain effective energy and
water solutions

Fundamentals of Next Generation Geothermal Technology for Power Generation
Virtual | August 17, 2026 | 1:00–2:00 p.m. ET
This 101-level training introduces the fundamentals of geothermal technologies, helping participants differentiate conventional hydrothermal systems from next-generation solutions like Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) and Advanced Closed Loop Geothermal Systems (AGS). The session will cover the current market status of conventional hydrothermal systems and technology readiness levels of next-generation technologies, as well as the key federal drivers influencing investment and innovation. Participants will gain insight into the technical barriers, regulatory landscape, and demonstration timelines for power generation.
Become a Certified Data Center Energy Practitioner
As energy-intensive facilities, data centers stand to benefit from measures that save energy. However, conducting effective energy assessments requires specialized knowledge and training.
To support this need, the U.S. Department of Energy and industry partners developed the Data Center Energy Practitioner (DCEP) Training Program. This program certifies professionals as qualified to assess energy performance and identify savings opportunities in data centers.
Live online courses are offered every other month, providing a pathway to becoming a certified DCEP and helping advance energy savings across the sector.

Attend the Next FEMP Treasure Hunt in Virginia
September 22–23, 2026 | U.S. Coast Guard Base Portsmouth – Norfolk, VA
FEMP “Treasure Hunts” are no-cost, guided, two-day, on-site trainings offered to personnel at federal facilities. Treasure Hunts teach staff to identify cost-effective operational improvements that yield significant energy and cost savings. If you would like to participate in this upcoming Treasure Hunt at the U.S. Coast Guard Base Portsmouth in Norfolk, VA, email Allison Ackerman. Note that priority attendance is given to U.S. Coast Guard personnel. A few spots are open for other federal personnel until filled.
