Transformative research and demonstration projects are among the highlights of the 2025 Office of Electricity (OE)’s Energy Storage Program Annual Meeting and Peer Review on Aug. 5-7 in McLean, Va. An expected 250 participants from national labs, federal, state and local governments and academia—a record number—will gather to discuss energy storage industry accomplishments to date.
Electric energy storage continues to play a crucial role in maintaining a robust electric grid as the nation experiences rapid transformation ranging from new electricity generation resources, large loads and increased demand to security, affordability and grid reliability concerns.
Participants will review the technologies showing progress to work reliably and cost effectively in the field, including demonstration projects from local organizations. They will also examine standards and regulations, siting and permitting, impacts from Artificial Intelligence, safety and reliability, and weather hazard mitigation and innovative modeling, financial and operational tools.
The event features Emil Avram, Vice President of Business Development at Dominion Energy, as keynote speaker and a dedication to the late Dr. Imre Gyuk, whose six-decade career in energy storage left a legacy within the industry. In lieu of a memorial service, his family has requested that Imre’s friends and colleagues share memories on the Dignity Memorial website.
