Linthicum Heights, Md. – The Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Crime Center (DC3) welcomes new Executive Director, Mr. Lesley H. Bernys.
Mr. Bernys most recently served as Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology Services and Solutions at the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, based in Quantico, Virginia, since May 2023.
Mr. Bernys began his career with the Department of the Air Force in 2003, serving as a Special Agent with Air Force Office of Special Investigations. Throughout his tenure, he has held a diverse range of leadership positions within OSI, including Special Agent in Charge, Deputy Director of the Office of Special Projects (PJ), and Headquarters Special Advisor. In addition to these roles, Mr. Bernys previously acted in policy and leadership roles within the U.S. Senate and U.S. Cyber Command. He is a graduate of the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.
As Executive Director, Mr. Bernys will assume responsibility for a staff of more than 500 civilian, military, and contractor personnel, directly supporting mission requirements throughout the DoD.
Designated by Presidential Directive as a Federal Cybersecurity Center, DC3 provides digital and multimedia forensics, specialized cyber training, technical solutions development, and cyber analytics across the DoD in support of cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure protection, law enforcement and counterintelligence, and document and media exploitation (DOMEX).
DC3 is a Field Operating Agency aligned with the Department of the Air Force Inspector General, supporting the entire Department of Defense, as well as interagency and international partners.
Mr. Bernys assumes the position from Dr. Jude Sunderbruch, who retired in June 2024.
