TRANSCOM Today - 6 December 2012
U.S. Department of War sent this bulletin at 12/06/2012 01:32 PM ESTTransportation Colleagues,
Welcome to the first of what will be a monthly email to nearly 3,000 of you who formerly subscribed to a newsletter called “DPO Update.” We saw a need for communication beyond that product’s scope, and we are pleased to introduce this new monthly e-letter, “TRANSCOM Today.” Our intent is to keep you, critical players in the Defense Transportation System, informed on a range of topics and engaged with us.
Together, we’ve done much in the last year. We completed support operations and redeployed forces and equipment from Iraq. We also reduced the surge force in Afghanistan and are developing redeployment plans from this theater while we continue to supply those who remain. Additionally, we supported every geographic combatant command around the world in operations as diverse as resupplying the National Science Foundation in Antarctica to assisting the Federal Emergency Management Agency in response to Hurricane Sandy.
Longer term, we at USTRANSCOM are working to maintain readiness and maximize capability. In October, we launched a new strategy to posture ourselves for the next five years and beyond. I encourage you to learn more about it on our website at: www.ustranscom.mil/strategy.
As we approach 2013, many challenges remain. I’m committed to keeping you up-to-date in the coming months. Please share this email with your colleagues. We encourage any and all interested to subscribe via the instructions below.
General William M. Fraser, III
Commander, U.S. Transportation Command
