U.S. Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta speaks with Chinese Gen. Ma Xiaotian, the Chinese army's deputy chief of general staff, in Beijing, Sept. 17, 2012. Panetta is scheduled to visit with defense counterparts in Beijing before traveling to Auckland, New Zealand, on a weeklong trip to the Pacific region.
