COVID-19 Website PAG
U.S. Department of War sent this bulletin at 03/16/2020 01:25 PM EDTALCON,
Under Emergency Support Function 15 of the National Response Framework the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Web Council are directing the following actions for all websites. OSDPA has concurred with this guidance.
Please read the entire message and ensure you understand what is being asked. Questions and concerns can be directed to the DOD’s Federal Web Council representatives, Ms. Carla Voorhees (carla.s.voorhees.civ@mail.mil) and Mr. Terry Davis (terry.w.davis.civ@mail.mil)
Actions directed:
- Create a URL to contain all coronavirus /COVID-19 information at the following location https://www.site.mil/coronavirus
- That page must contain:
- Links to the two primary lanes of information
- Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) - https://www.coronavirus.gov
- What the U.S. Government is Doing - https://www.usa.gov/coronavirus
- Only information directly relevant to your agency, local area, or installation. CDC and DHS are requesting all PA activities “Stay in Your Lane”
- Links to the two primary lanes of information
- Send links and information relevant to DOD-wide response to Defense.gov for posting on the department-level coronavirus page.
- Include links to the primary lanes of communication on all publicly-released materials related to COVID-19.
- Do not create a logo or any other distinct visual treatment for COVID-19. We do not wish to “brand” the virus. A CDC-approved image can be found here: https://phil.cdc.gov/Details.aspx?pid=2871
- Do not copy and paste any CDC content onto your own website. As this is a rapidly changing situation, it is imperative we link to the official resources at coronavirus.gov. If you wish to include graphics or documents, link to the asset rather than downloading and re-uploading so if the source is updated, users are presented with the most recent information.
- Stay in Your Lane - General health information, hand washing videos, etc. should remain in CDC’s lane.
For those not familiar with the lane structure, the idea is to eliminate cross-posting of information among agencies and, instead, have everyone provide links to centralized “lanes” of information. So, for example, Energy might post a press release related to Energy activities… and instead of every other agency trying to keep up with adding that link to their site as well, a link to the Energy release is added to one or two centralized pages.
Lanes of Communication:
- Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has established a landing page on CDC.gov with the latest information from CDC and the overarching medical community on COVID-19. The page is currently promoting information on how it spreads, symptoms, prevention and treatment, stigma and COVID-19, what to do if you are sick, and frequently asked questions. The page is located at https://www.coronavirus.gov.
- What the U.S. Government is Doing https://www.usa.gov/coronavirus GSA has created a landing page on USA.gov for government-wide information related to COVID-19 activities.
