The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) is now conducting the 2024 Benchmark Survey of U.S. Direct Investment Abroad (BE-10), a mandatory survey that collects data from U.S. companies to produce timely economic statistics. The BE-10 survey occurs every five years and takes the place of the BE-11 Annual Survey of U.S. Direct Investment Abroad.
A U.S. person or business enterprise is required by law to submit the BE-10 survey if it owned or controlled 10 percent or more of the voting interest in a foreign business enterprise at the end of the fiscal year that ended in calendar year 2024. The information you report on the survey is CONFIDENTIAL and can only be used for statistical purposes.
BEA will also notify you of your filing requirement by mail. The letter you receive will include your BE-10 ID number which you will need when completing your report. Responses are due May 30, 2025 or June 30, 2025, depending on the number of required forms.
You can now visit https://www.bea.gov/surveys/diasurv to view PDF versions of the survey forms, instructions, and to submit the forms via eFile. The latest guidance material, FAQs, and more are also available to help you prepare for filing the survey.
This email account is unmonitored. If you have questions, or no longer meet the filing requirement, please send a secure message through the eFile system or e-mail be10/11@bea.gov.
Thank you in advance for your time and cooperation. Your response makes a difference in producing accurate and objective statistics on the U.S. economy.
