NIST Awards Nearly $3 Million for Educational Programs Focused on Circular Economy to Reduce Plastic Waste
On March 1, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced it has awarded nearly $3 million in total to six universities to create curricula and programs that will train students to discover and develop solutions to problems presented by our current approaches to the production and consumption of plastics. The grants support an interdisciplinary approach, spanning topics such as materials science, economics, business, and chemical, environmental and systems engineering.
NIST Releases Version 2.0 of Landmark Cybersecurity Framework
On February 26, The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) updated the widely used Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), its landmark guidance document for reducing cybersecurity risk. The new 2.0 edition is designed for all audiences, industry sectors and organization types, from the smallest schools and nonprofits to the largest agencies and corporations — regardless of their degree of cybersecurity sophistication.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
FY2024 CHIPS R&D National Advanced Packaging Manufacturing Program (NAPMP) Materials & Substrates
The CHIPS Research and Development Program (CHIPS R&D) aims to advance the development of semiconductor technologies and to enhance the competitiveness of the U.S. semiconductor industry. This is the first Notice of Funding Opportunity under this program. It seeks applications for new research and development (R&D) activities to establish and accelerate domestic capacity for advanced packaging substrates and substrate materials, a key technology for producing microelectronics systems.
FY2024 NOAA American Lobster Research Program
In FY24, consistent with its mission to enhance practical use and conservation in order to create a sustainable economy and environment, NOAA Sea Grant’s American Lobster Research Program will fund projects that address priority research needs to enhance our understanding of and address impacts to this significant, complex and dynamic fishery. Projects that involve partnerships among industry, State agencies, and/or academia, including but not limited to cooperative research or co-production, are strongly encouraged.
FY2024 NOAA Young Fishermen’s Career Development Projects
The National Sea Grant Office (NSGO) anticipates approximately $1,000,000 of federal funds will be available to support approximately 2-3 awards in order to develop and execute local, regional, and national programs, workshops, and services to enable fishermen to enter career paths and make a living supplying seafood from our oceans, coasts, and Great Lakes. Awards will be made for no more than $400,000 in federal funds per project, and may be for one or two years, though for no more than $200,000/year.
