Thank you to the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce for organizing this event. And congratulations on the rapid expansion of your membership to more than three times as many members today as you had three years ago. That reflects the growing commercial partnership between our countries. Thank you also to our distinguished guests who traveled such long distances to attend this forum. I am happy to see some familiar faces. And I am honored to be here to express the U.S. Government’s commitment to deepening our engagement with Uzbekistan.

Thank you, Jay, for that very kind introduction. Thank you, also, to SCHOTT North America for hosting us. As all of you here know, President Trump made a promise to reinvigorate manufacturing in our country. And I’m pleased to say today, that he has kept that promise. Thanks to his policies focused on rebuilding American industry, American jobs, and American prosperity, we are heading toward a more prosperous and hopeful future.

Good morning, and welcome everyone to this exciting event. Given the amount of interest in this subject — and an unexpected onrush of registrations — we had to change the location to handle all the additional attendees. We are delighted that you are all here during one of the busiest weeks of the year for space industry conferences. Right now is probably the best time yet for space startups. In earlier periods, the gap between start up and revenue realization was too long and too uncertain for many investors. Back then, it was also not obvious how much room there would be for the sector’s growth.

Thank you, Khush, for that kind introduction — and for the opportunity to be with you and your members for the launch of the new U.S.-Kuwait Business Council. It’s also my pleasure to be here with Ambassador Al Sabah. The two of us met shortly after I started my tenure as the Commerce Secretary, and we have worked together many times since. I had the honor of attending the U.S. - Kuwait Economic Forum organized by the Chamber in 2017. And together we celebrated the National Day of Kuwait earlier this year, as well as in 2018.
