Alitalia Airlines and Qantas Airways join TSA Pre®

73 airlines now participate in the expedited screening program

WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today the expansion of its TSA Pre® expedited screening program with the addition of Alitalia Airlines and Qantas Airways. These two airlines bring the total number of TSA Pre® participating domestic and international carriers to 73.

TSA Pre® is an expedited screening program that enables low-risk travelers to enjoy a smart and efficient screening experience at more than 200 U.S. airports. For TSA Pre® travelers, there is no need to remove shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts or light jackets. In November 2019, 93% of passengers in TSA Pre® lanes waited less than five minutes despite record numbers of people traveling.

TSA Pre® is available for eligible passengers when departing from a U.S. airport or when connecting on domestic flights after returning to the United States. Travelers who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and U.S. lawful permanent residents can apply for TSA Pre® for a cost of $85 for five years.

Once approved, travelers receive a unique “Known Traveler Number” that can be added to an airline reservation, making them eligible to use TSA Pre® lanes at security checkpoints nationwide on a consistent basis when traveling on any of the 75 participating airlines.

Other passengers who are eligible for TSA Pre® include members of the three U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Trusted Traveler programs, Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI. To find the program that best suits your travel needs, use the Department of Homeland Security trusted traveler comparison tool. TSA Pre® is also available for U.S. Armed Forces service members, including those serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Reserves and National Guard.

Passengers should look for the TSA Pre® indicator (such as TSAPRECHK, TSA PRE, or TSA Pre®) on their boarding pass to know if they are eligible for TSA Pre® screening before their flight.

TSA Pre® members who have enjoyed expedited screening since 2014 are now eligible to renew their membership. To keep enjoying TSA Pre® benefits, individuals may renew up to six months before their membership expiration date. For most members, renewal is easy and may be completed online.

TSA continues to incorporate unpredictable security measures, both seen and unseen, throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
