ICE conducts single adult, family unit, removal flights April 19
ICE, a component agency of the Department of Homeland Security, working in close coordination across the department — including with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, continued to facilitate removal flights of April 15 through April 19. Those included removal flights to Central America, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Mexico and Peru. If a noncitizen arrives and has no legal basis to remain in the United States they will be processed and removed quickly, consistent with U.S. law. 🔗Keep reading
HSI lights up Louisiana for new outreach campaign, National Child Abuse Prevention Month
In recognition of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s new national Know2Protect outreach campaign and National Child Abuse Prevention Month, HSI New Orleans is working with public and private sector organizations to encourage safe online practices for children. Through this partnership with HSI, state landmarks including the Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans and the Capitol building in Baton Rouge displayed the Know2Protect campaign colors April 17 and 18 to help promote public awareness.
Know2Protect is a DHS campaign designed to educate and empower children, teens, parents, trusted adults and policymakers to fight against online child sexual exploitation and abuse. In the last decade, this crime has increased exponentially and is now a global epidemic. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children receives 80,000 daily reports of suspected child sexual abuse material. 🔗Keep reading
ERO Boston removes unlawfully present Brazilian fugitive wanted for rape in home country
ERO Boston removed an unlawfully present Brazilian fugitive being sought by law enforcement authorities in Brazil for raping a vulnerable person. Deportation officers from ERO Boston removed Altair Jose Portuense-Lana, 51, via a flight to Brazil March 22. Keep reading
Traveler caught with child sexual abuse material sentenced to 8 years following HSI Rio Grande Valley Child Exploitation Task Force, federal partner investigation
A Mexican citizen was sentenced to eight years for transporting child sexual abuse material following an investigation conducted by HSI Rio Grande Valley’s Child Exploitation Task Force with help from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. 🔗Keep reading
ERO San Francisco arrests foreign fugitive wanted for kidnapping
ERO arrested a Romanian national April 5 wanted in their home country for kidnapping. ERO San Francisco officers discovered the 25-year-old Romanian national living in Fresno, California, and made the arrest. 🔗Keep reading
