ICE conducts single adult, family unit removal flights March 1
ICE, working in close coordination across the Department of Homeland Security, including with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, continued to facilitate removal flights of single adults and family units from Feb. 26 through March 1. Those included removal flights to Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru and South Korea.
From Mayβ―12, 2023 to Feb. 28, 2024, DHS has removed or returned over 583,000 individuals, the vast majority of whom crossed the Southwest Border, including more than 92,000 individual family members. The majority of all individuals encountered at the Southwest Border over the past three years have been removed, returned, or expelled. Total removals and returns since mid-May exceed removals and returns in every full fiscal year since 2013. π Keep reading

ICE announces new online system for filing G-28
On Feb. 28, ERO announced a new web-based paperless system, called ERO eFile, for immigration attorneys and accredited representatives to provide information about their eligibility to act on behalf of noncitizens in ICE custody through secure online communications. The system is another step in ICE's commitment to modernizing our nation's immigration system. π Keep reading
HSI Nogales case results in firearms trafficking indictment
Following an investigation by HSI, a federal grand jury indicted Jose Rene Murrieta, a 30-year-old man from Nogales, on Feb. 21. He is charged with smuggling goods from the United States, felony receipt of a firearm and conspiracy to smuggle firearms out of the United States to promote a felony.Β
According to the complaint, on Jan. 23, Murrieta tried to cross from the United States into Mexico through the DeConcini Port of Entry. During a search of his vehicle, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered multiple rifles, pistols and magazines. Murietta admitted during questioning that he was smuggling these items to Mexico in exchange for money. π Keep reading

ERO Salt Lake City arrests 8 noncitizens with sex offense convictions as part of nationwide law enforcement effort
During a nationwide law enforcement effort from Feb. 5 to Feb. 16, ERO apprehended eight unlawfully present noncitizen sex offenders. This operation follows a similar enforcement effort in January, during which 275 individuals deemed as a threat to public safety were arrested. ERO's intelligence-driven enforcement model enables it to utilize limited resources effectively to enhance public safety across the United States. π Keep reading
Florida man sentenced to 27 years for distributing, receiving, possessing child sexual abuse material
Following an HSI investigation, Jesse James Bertetto, 30, was sentenced to 27 years in prison for distributing, receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material.
A guilty verdict on April 12, 2023, requires Bertetto to register as a sex offender and pay $74,500 in restitution. Evidence showed that Bertetto possessed child sexual abuse material on his cellphone, including images and videos of minors under the age of 12. His web history revealed searches and visits to websites known to law enforcement for containing such content. πKeep reading
