ICE conducts single adult, family unit removal flights Jan. 5
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, working in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, facilitated removal flights, including single adults and family units to Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, from Jan. 1 through Jan. 5.Â
Since May 12, 2023, DHS has removed or returned over 470,000 individuals, the vast majority of whom crossed the Southwest Border, including more than 78,000 individual family members. In seven months, this nearly exceeds the number removed and returned in all of FY19 and exceeds the number of removals and returns in each full fiscal year from 2015-2018. 🔗 Keep reading

HSI Laredo, multiagency investigation results in Texas woman’s guilty plea for impersonating a nurse
Nora Nely Avila, 35, pleaded guilty on Jan. 3 to making false statements related to health care matters, following an investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General, the Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General, and the Texas Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. 🔗 Keep reading
ERO Washington, D.C. takes custody of Venezuelan noncitizen arrested for carrying machete and knife at US Capitol
Enforcement and Removal Operations Washington, D.C. assumed control of an undocumented Venezuelan noncitizen. Leonardo Marquez-Marquez, 23, was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police on Dec. 26 for possessing a machete, a butcher’s knife and a brick at the U.S. Capitol. Deportation officers from the ERO Washington, D.C. field office executed the custody transfer on Dec. 27. 🔗Keep reading
Nigerian national arrested in connection with inheritance fraud scheme following HSI Tucson, partner agency investigation
A Nigerian national was arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport and arraigned in Miami on Dec. 20, in an inheritance fraud scheme. Homeland Security Investigations, the Department of Justice’s Consumer Protection Branch and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating the case. 🔗 Keep reading
ICE investigation prompts federal judge’s denaturalization of convicted serial child rapist
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Removal Operations officers in Raleigh initiated an investigation resulting in the denaturalization of a convicted sex offender.
Operation False Haven, conceived and executed by ERO in late 2019, aims to identify and target child sexual abusers and other egregious felons who were convicted after naturalizing for offenses they committed and concealed during the naturalization process. 🔗 Keep Reading
